MANIFEST file is an XML document used by Windows operating system which purpose is provide application update configuration and implementaion details. MANIFEST file holds metadata and other information in plain text that describes the installer package. Information contained in the file covers privileges, file extensions, sources and other data needed to define the package.
Windows XP and Vista operating systems use MANIFEST files for their applications. MANIFEST file enables updating, for example, graphical interface of some older application installed on newer version of operating system. Such update changes only the graphical style of the interface to mathc that of the newer version – the application functionality and available features remain the same.
MANIFEST file filename is the same as that of the program associated with it except for added extension name. For example, a manifest file for notepad.exe would be named notepad.exe.manifest. MANIFEST file is located in the same folder as the program it is associated with.
MANIFEST files are commonly compiled into CDF-MS files to allow the underlying program to have faster access to application parameters.
We hope we helped you solve the problem with the MANIFEST file. If you do not know where you can download the application from our list, click on the link (which is the name of the program) - you will find more information there on the location where to download the secure setup version of the required application.
There can be more reasons which determine that you are not able to open the MANIFEST file (apart from the lack of the proper application installed).
First - the MANIFEST file may be incorrectly associated with the application installed to support it. In this case, you need to change this association by yourself. To do this, right-click on the MANIFEST file that you want to edit, click "Open with" and then select the program from the list that you have installed. After this operation, the problems with opening the MANIFEST file should be solved.
Second - the file you want to open can simply be damaged. Then, the best solution is to find a new version of given file, or download it again from the same source as before (maybe for some reason in the previous session the download of the MANIFEST file has not been completed and it cannot be opened properly).
