V264 File

Files with the V264 extension contain video records in a proprietary format for selected Tenvis IP cameras. They are based on the H.264 video stream encoding, however, the videos are meant to be played only on dedicated software. This format is specific to Tenvis IPROBOT 3 devices - wireless indoor IP cameras with SD cards recording capability, constituting a company modification of the format.

Issues with Tenvis V264 files

Users of Tenvis brand equipment note the lack of compatibility of the V264 files with popular video players and editors, which causes problems in their use. The tools provided by the manufacturer are insufficient for:

• effectively playing videos in full resolution on platforms other than Windows,
• editing videos,
• changing parameters, converting to other formats.

Due to these issues, the format has currently been replaced, and files with the V264 extension are rarely encountered.

Playback and conversion of files with the V264 extension

There are dedicated libraries that support the playback of V264 files in selected applications. They are based on the V264Player.exe application provided by the Tenvis hardware manufacturer. Tools for converting files to other formats, for example, to AVI format, can also be found online. Devices that natively record video in the V264 format support MPEG4 encoding, so updating their software may suffice for the files to be saved in a generally accessible format.
