EXO File

Files ending with the .EXO extension can contain EXORmacs Motorola data. This type of PROM data comes in a proprietary format of the Motorola Microsystems Division, created for the operating system from the eighties. Currently, the same extension is used to save segments of video streaming, but this represents a completely different data format.

Structure of .EXO Files - EXORmacs Data

Information recording in a file is binary - hexadecimal. A Motorola EXORmacs data file may include what is known as a login record at the beginning. Following this, there are data records consisting of:

• A start character,
• two characters indicating the byte count,
• an address in hexadecimal notation,
• data,
• a checksum.

The file ends with a special string of characters, taking into account, similar to the data record, characters specifying the byte count - 03, a hexadecimal address 0000, and a checksum.

Application of Data Saved with the .EXO Extension

Files saved with the .EXO extension can be used to record onto PROM memory, i.e., Programmable Read Only Memory. This memory type is used for preserving data that can only be read in normal mode. The data remain in memory even after the power supply is disconnected. To write, and in the case of EPROM or EEPROM also erase and rewrite, the use of an appropriate operating mode or device - programmer is necessary.

Currently, .EXO files can be utilized by specialized software, for example, iMPACT or PROMgen. The software also allows for the conversion of their contents into files in MCS, TEX, or HEX format.
