What is Z01 file?

Z01 is the first of multiple files that together create a larger file archive created with WinZip tool. The file stores data that when combined with volumes create a complete ZIP archive.

When are split archives used?

Z01 files use the same archivization standard as ZIP files. Spliting a large archive into smaller volumes makes sharing files on the internet easier and allows to overcome size limitations if such are imposed. Splitting is typically used for very large file archives.

How to open file with Z01 extension?

The process is quick and doesn’t involve an IT expert. The following is a list of guidelines that will help you identify and solve file-related problems.

Step 1. Install WinZip software

The main and most frequent cause precluding users form opening Z01 files is that no program that can handle Z01 files is installed on user’s system. Step 2. Update WinZip to the latest version

• From the drop-down menu, accessed by clicking the file with Z01 extension, select Information
• Proceed to the Open with section. If its closed, click the title to access available options
• Select WinZip and click Change for all...
• If you followed the previous steps a message should appear: This change will be applied to all files with Z01 extension. Next, click the Continue button to finalize the process.

Step 4. Verify that the Z01 is not faulty

If you followed the instructions form the previous steps yet the issue is still not solved, you should verify the Z01 file in question. Problems with opening the file may arise due to various reasons.

1. Verify that the Z01 in question is not infected with a computer virus
