MJPEG File

Motion JPEG files saved with the .MJPEG extension contain video data created in a specific way. Each frame is compressed separately using algorithms utilized in JPEG compression. The moving image obtained in this way occupies less disk space in relation to the original version. Thanks to the generally available libraries for JPEG compression, the algorithm is not complicated and does not show high computational complexity.

Differences between .MJPEG files

Due to the lack of documents strictly standardizing the Motion JPEG format, there may be differences between the recording standards used in MJPEG files. This can cause compatibility problems between files saved by different types of software. Unlike compression compliant with MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 standards, Motion JPEG compression does not rely on frame differences and predicting changes.
