Why convert MAX to FBX?
FBX is the standard interchange format accepted by Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, Unity, and Cinema 4D, none of which can open .max directly. Converting to .fbx lets you move geometry, materials, cameras, lights, and animation keyframes into any of those pipelines.
