What is WDB file?

A .WDB file is a binary database file that is created using the Microsoft Works application. The WDB file stores the database file in a proprietary database file format, which cannot be directly opened using the MS-Access. The WDB file needs to be converted into .DBF using the Microsoft Works application and then the DBF file can be imported using the MS-Access application. Further, the WDB file, which is a default database file format supported by the MS-Works application can be converted into CSV files and the Excel spreadsheets using the Works database converter.

  • To finalize the process, select Look for another app on this PC entry and using the file explorer select the Microsoft Works installation folder. Confirm by checking Always use this app to open WDB files box and clicking OK button.

Change the default application in Mac OS

  • By clicking right mouse button on the selected WDB file open the file menu and choose Information
  • Find the Open with option – click the title if its hidden
  • From the list choose the appropriate program and confirm by clicking Change for all....
  • If you followed the previous steps a message should appear: This change will be applied to all files with WDB extension. Next, click the Continue button to finalize the process.

Step 4. Check the WDB for errors

Should the problem still occur after following steps 1-3, check if the WDB file is valid. It is probable that the file is corrupted and thus cannot be accessed.

1. The WDB may be infected with malware – make sure to scan it with an antivirus tool.
