What is the PLF file format?
A .plf file is a playlist file created by the InterVideo WinDVD software application, now maintained by Corel Corporation. The .plf file holds an index of the multimedia files referenced by WinDVD - it does not contain video or audio data itself, only pointers to media paths on disk. The file is used as a reference for playing back DVD, HD, and Blu-ray movie content on Windows PCs.
Note that the .plf extension is also used by several unrelated formats. Related playlist formats include .M3U, .PLS, .WPL, and .ASX.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWA WinDVD .plf is a small, passive reference file with no executable content, so it poses little risk on its own. The practical issue is breakage: because it only stores paths to media, the playlist fails if those files move. Be cautious with the overloaded extension - a file labelled '.plf' from a game-console or firmware context (PS3/Lego archive) is a different format entirely; don't assume a .plf is a WinDVD playlist without checking its origin.
