KINE File

KineMaster Project File
Ask a question
QUICK ANSWER

A .kine file is a self-contained KineMaster project exported from the KineMaster video editing app. It is a ZIP archive that bundles the project's internal .kmproject file together with all the media clips, images, audio, and settings the project uses, so an edit can be moved between devices and kept fully editable. To open one, import it back into KineMaster on Android, iOS, Windows, or the web; other video editors cannot read it.

Identify a file

What is the KINE file format?

A .kine file is a project export from KineMaster, the mobile-first video editing app made by KineMaster Corporation. It is not a finished video. Instead it holds everything needed to keep editing: the project's internal .kmproject descriptor plus copies of every clip, image, audio track, and font the edit relies on. Under the hood a .kine is a .zip archive, so the whole project travels as one portable file.

KineMaster added .kine export in version 5, released in 2019. Before that, projects lived only inside the app on a single device. The .kmproject file records the timeline, layers, clip order, transitions, effects, color adjustments, text styling, and audio, while the bundled media supplies the actual source footage. That combination is what lets a project reopen intact on another phone, tablet, or computer.

Security & safety

RISK: LOW

A .kine is a project archive, not an executable, so opening one in KineMaster carries little inherent risk. Because it is a ZIP container, treat files from unknown senders with normal caution and scan them, since any bundled media could in theory be malformed. The file itself does not run code.

A .kine file is a ZIP archive, so it begins with the standard ZIP local file header signature PK\x03\x04. The signature identifies it as a ZIP container, not specifically as a KineMaster file; the .kine content is confirmed by the .kmproject file inside.

Byte orderN/A (ZIP container)
StructureA .kine file is a ZIP archive bundling a project's .kmproject descriptor file together with every media asset the project references (video clips, images, audio, fonts). The .kmproject file records the timeline, layers, clip order, transitions, effects, color adjustments, text and styling, and audio tracks, while the bundled media provides the actual source content so the project opens intact on another device.
IntegrityPer-entry CRC-32 checksums provided by the ZIP container format
Typical sizeA few megabytes to several gigabytes, depending on the number and length of the bundled media clips
PlatformsAndroid, iOS, Windows, macOS, ChromeOS
NotesExporting to .kine packages the whole project as a single portable file, unlike the internal .kmproject file which references media by path and does not travel with it. Importing a .kine on a new device restores the full editable project. The Merge Project tool lets an imported .kine be combined with an existing project or with other imported .kine files.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a .kine file?
Open KineMaster, go to the Create tab, tap Import, and select the .kine file. KineMaster unpacks the bundled project and media so you can keep editing. No other video editor can open it.
Can I play a .kine file as a video?
No. A .kine is an editable project, not a finished movie. To get a playable video, import the .kine into KineMaster, open the project, and use the app's export function to render an .mp4.
Why is my .kine file so large?
The file bundles copies of every video clip, image, and audio track the project uses, not just the edit instructions. Projects with long or high-resolution clips can reach several gigabytes.
Which KineMaster version added .kine export?
KineMaster introduced the ability to export projects as .kine files in version 5, released in 2019. Earlier versions kept projects only in the app's internal storage.
Can I open a .kine file with a ZIP tool?
Yes, a .kine is a ZIP archive, so renaming it to .zip lets an archiver list the .kmproject descriptor and media inside. That is useful only for inspection; the project stays editable only in KineMaster.
How do I combine two .kine files?
Import both files in KineMaster, then use the Merge Project tool. It lets you fold an imported .kine into an existing project or into another imported .kine, which is handy when several people edit the same video.
