What is the SNB file format?
The .snb file extension is used by e-book files for the Shanda Bambook e-reader. .snb files are designed to store e-books for use with the Shanda e-reader, acting as a proprietary binary container that bundles a book's chapters, text, and embedded images into a single package.
The Bambook e-reader debuted in China around 2010 and was later launched onto the US market. However, it didn't gain much popularity in the West. The device was designed and created by Nut Shell Electronics, a subsidiary of Shanda. .snb files are native to the Bambook e-reader and devices from other manufacturers do not support this format natively.
.snb files can be converted into other more popular formats such as EPUB, PDF, or MOBI. Calibre is the main cross-platform tool (Windows, macOS, Linux) capable of reading .snb files and converting them to current ebook standards.
Note that the .snb extension is also used by Samsung S Note files - a completely unrelated note-taking format - so the originating device or application should be used to tell the two apart.

RISK: LOWAn SNB ebook is content (text and images), not executable code, so a genuine Bambook ebook is safe to add to Calibre and convert. The main caution is sourcing - get books from legitimate sources - and identification: confirm whether a .snb is a Bambook ebook (use Calibre) or a Samsung S Note (use the S Note / Samsung Notes app), since trying the wrong tool just fails to open it.
