What is the PPX file format?
A .ppx file is a desktop publishing document created by Serif PagePlus, a Windows-based DTP application. The .ppx format was introduced with the X-series releases (PagePlus X1, 2005) and used through the final version, PagePlus X9 (April 2017).
.ppx files store complete publication layouts including page structures, text frames, graphic objects, embedded images, master pages, colour schemes, and typographic settings - everything required to produce print-ready or digital publications such as brochures, newsletters, posters, and books.
The format is a proprietary binary structure with no public specification and is readable only by Serif PagePlus. Earlier PagePlus versions used the .ppp extension; .ppx replaced it with the X-series rebrand.
Serif discontinued all ‘Plus’ product lines in 2017 to focus on the Affinity suite. The successor to PagePlus is Affinity Publisher (.afpub), but it cannot import .ppx files natively. The recommended migration path is to export the document to PDF from PagePlus X9 and open it in Affinity Publisher - a process that preserves visual appearance but loses full editability of text and objects. PagePlus X9 can still be installed on modern Windows for access to legacy .ppx files; existing licence holders can download it from Serif’s legacy portal.
