What is ODP file?

ODP file contains ZIP-compressed presentation document saved in open format OpenDocument, which is based on XML. ODP divides data into distinct presentation elements:

  • Content – actual data,
  • Styles,
  • Metadata,
  • Application settings.

Separate XML files and presentation contents are placed in folders that are in turn packed into a single ODP file. A presentation can comprise of slides, slide themes, styles, transition effects, fonts, images, sounds, etc.

ODP format was developed in 2005 by OASIS group along with other open document standards. ISO/IEC 26300 standard defines ODP specification. ODP was created as a direct response to proprietary PPT format used by Microsoft Office and as an attempt to devise a platform-independent file sharing standard.
