What is the HD3D file format?
An .hd3d file is the native project format of Home Design 3D, an interior and home design app from Anuman Interactive (now part of Microids). It saves everything you build in a plan: rooms, walls, doors and windows, plus any furniture, decoration and landscaping you added. Open the file again and you pick up the design exactly where you left it.
Under the hood an .hd3d file is a .zip archive. It bundles XML files that store the plan geometry and the coordinates of each placed object, together with image files for custom textures and preview thumbnails. The XML layout is proprietary, so only Home Design 3D reads the geometry correctly, even though the ZIP wrapper itself is standard.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWAn .hd3d file is a passive project document, not an executable, so opening one cannot run code. It is a ZIP container, so as with any archive a malformed file could in theory trip a bug in an unpacker, but normal projects opened in Home Design 3D carry no meaningful risk. Only open files from sources you trust.

The file is a ZIP archive, so it starts with the standard ZIP local-file-header signature PK\x03\x04. There is no HD3D-specific signature; the format is identified by its .hd3d extension and its internal layout of XML and image entries.

Can I open an .hd3d file without Home Design 3D?

No. Home Design 3D does not export to standard 3D mesh formats and the internal data is undocumented, so there is no working converter to OBJ or FBX.
Can I get a PDF of my design?
Yes. Open the project in Home Design 3D and use the built-in PDF export to produce a document of your plan.
