What is the FOLDER file format?
A file with the .FOLDER extension is a file known as Microsoft Windows Explorer Folder. It belongs to the System Files category. This format is associated with Microsoft Corporation.
The reliable way to open a .FOLDER file is with software that recognises this exact format, rather than guessing from the file name. If you are not sure what created a file, our file identifier can read its first bytes and name the real format, even when the file has been renamed.
We are still gathering the list of programs that open .FOLDER files. A fully verified, hand-written description of this format is being prepared; until then, the details on this page are drawn directly from our database.
