What is the TLL file format?
.tll is a channel list configuration file used by LG televisions. Saved to a USB drive via the TV's channel export function, the file stores the complete channel configuration: channel names, logical and physical numbers, frequency data, signal type (satellite, cable, or terrestrial), favorites lists, and general TV settings.
Two distinct variants exist. Older LG NetCast-era TVs (circa 2010-2013) produce a binary, model-specific .tll file whose internal structure varies by TV chipset. LG webOS smart TVs (2014 and later) produce an XML-based file always named GlobalClone00001.TLL, following LG's GlobalClone schema and readable as plain text.
When both file types are present on the same USB drive, LG TVs prefer the binary file for import. To force a webOS TV to use the editable XML version, the binary file should be deleted from the USB drive first.
The primary third-party tool for editing .tll files is ChanSort, which auto-detects both variants and supports re-ordering channel numbers to match regional preferences. An older utility, TllEdit (SourceForge), handles legacy binary variants but has been largely superseded by ChanSort.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWA .tll file is a configuration file for a specific LG TV. It poses no security risk to a PC. Importing a .tll from an untrusted source could overwrite your TV's channel configuration, but it cannot harm the TV hardware or install malware on the television.
