PMX File

PMX files are used by Pegasus Mail, a email client application.

Contents of PMX files

Files with PMX extension store messages ready to be sent. In practice, PMX contains a list of messages in the outbox sorted by the PMX file generation timestamp. This means that the first on the list will be the oldest not yet sent message.

Can I sefely delete a PMX file?

PMX are generated by Pegasus Mail automatically each time the used writes and send an email message. After the message has been successfully sent, the PMX is automatically deleted. Sometimes however it can happen that despite the email has been successfully sent, PMX file is not deleted. Such file is called a “ghost” and remains in the outbox. In this case user can manually delete the PMX file by accessing it path on disk.
