What is GLTF file?

Files with the GLTF extension store information about three-dimensional - 3D GL models, but in the form of JSON data. This makes their size and the power needed to process them in applications using GL libraries significantly smaller. The format, also known as JPEG 3D, was developed as part of a collaboration in the Khronos Group 3D Formats Working Group.

These limit the definition of JSON to files using UTF-8 encoding without BOM, and defined strings should be written using ASCII. Additionally, names within objects cannot be duplicated. Thanks to GLTF, one can obtain files of small sizes that allow for quick loading, full representation of the three-dimensional scene, and its expandability.

How to open file with GLTF extension?

Step 1. Download and install Blender

Step 2. Verify the you have the latest version of Blender

You still cannot access GLTF files although Blender is installed on your system? Make sure that the software is up to date. Sometimes software developers introduce new formats in place of that already supports along with newer versions of their applications. The reason that Blender cannot handle files with GLTF may be that the software is outdated. The latest version of Blender should support all file formats that where compatible with older versions of the software.

Step 3. Set the default application to open GLTF files to Blender
