Why convert REALITY to OBJ?
A .reality file is an Apple Reality Composer scene, while .obj is a plain, universally supported mesh format with no animation or scene logic. People convert to .obj when they just need the raw geometry in another modeling package. USDZ is the intermediate that Apple's tools produce.
How to convert REALITY to OBJ
Reality Composer + Blender FREE
Use File > Export in Reality Composer to save a .usdz, import it in Blender with File > Import > USD, then File > Export > Wavefront (.obj).
Reality Converter (macOS) FREE
Load the exported .usdz in Reality Converter to inspect it; combined with USD tools you can extract the mesh and write .obj.
USD tools (usdcat / usdzip) OPEN-SOURCE
Unzip the .usdz to recover the .usd payload, then use Pixar's USD command-line tools or Blender to output the geometry as .obj.
About these formats
A .reality file is an augmented reality scene created for Apple's RealityKit framework, usually authored in Reality Composer or Reality Composer Pro. It is a ZIP-based archive that bundles…

.objstores only static meshes, so all animation, behaviors and interactivity are lost.- Materials collapse to a basic
.mtlfile, so PBR textures and lighting usually need reworking. - Object hierarchy may be flattened during the OBJ export.
Frequently asked questions
Does .obj keep animation?
.obj is a static mesh format, so any Reality Composer animation is dropped in the conversion. Why export to USDZ first?
.usdz, so it is the required starting point before converting to .obj.What opens the resulting .obj?
Will textures come across?
.mtl sidecar, but advanced PBR material setups usually need to be rebuilt.
