Hva er FILEBOLT-filformatet?
En .filebolt-fil er en enkeltfil som har blitt kryptert av Filebolt, en filbeskyttelses-app fra Envault Corporation Oy, et finsk selskap grunnlagt i 2007. Inne i beholderen ligger én originalfil, for eksempel et .xlsx-regneark eller et .jpg-bilde, kodet med AES-kryptering og låst bak et passord eieren har valgt.
Envault bygde Filebolt på krypteringsforskning fra VTT, Finlands tekniske forskningssenter. Appen kjørte på Windows, macOS, iOS og Android, og den kunne låse filer lagret på enheten eller i skytjenester som Dropbox og Google Drive. Krypteringen skjedde lokalt, slik at skyleverandøren kun så chiffertekst. Envault oppga at de aldri lagret, overførte eller så på selve filene.
Én viktig detalj: Filebolt er avviklet. Appene og nettstedet er ikke lenger tilgjengelige, så de fleste som støter på en .filebolt-fil i dag, prøver å gjenopprette sine egne eldre dokumenter.

RISIKO: LOWA .filebolt file is encrypted data, not executable code, so opening it will not run anything. The real risk is losing access: the Filebolt app and website are discontinued, and without the password plus a working copy of the app the contents cannot be recovered. Decrypt important files and store them in a supported format while you still can.
