Vad är filformatet FILEBOLT?
En .filebolt-fil är en enskild fil som har krypterats av Filebolt, en filskyddsapp från Envault Corporation Oy, ett finskt företag grundat 2007. Inuti behållaren finns en originalfil, till exempel ett .xlsx-kalkylblad eller ett .jpg-foto, omkodat med AES-kryptering och låst bakom ett lösenord som ägaren valt.
Envault byggde Filebolt på krypteringsforskning från VTT, Teknologiska forskningscentralen i Finland. Appen kördes på Windows, macOS, iOS och Android, och den kunde låsa filer som lagrades på enheten eller i molntjänster som Dropbox och Google Drive. Krypteringen skedde lokalt, så molnleverantören såg bara chiffertext. Envault uppgav att de aldrig lagrade, överförde eller tittade på själva filerna.
En viktig detalj: Filebolt har lagts ner. Apparna och webbplatsen är inte längre tillgängliga, så de flesta som stöter på en .filebolt-fil idag försöker återställa sina egna äldre dokument.

RISK: LOWA .filebolt file is encrypted data, not executable code, so opening it will not run anything. The real risk is losing access: the Filebolt app and website are discontinued, and without the password plus a working copy of the app the contents cannot be recovered. Decrypt important files and store them in a supported format while you still can.
