SAT file format is used by 3D ACIS Modeler software. SAT files store 3D geometry data in plain text format.
SAT file are used for exchanging 3D data between various modeling environments, such as 3D animation software or software used in shipping industry. Geometry data is used also for non-sequential modeling of objects, for example, for modeling lighting systems or light scattering. SAT files are supported by many CAE, AEC, CAD, CMM and CAM software given they have 3D model ACIS component.
SAT format stores data as ASCII text, i.e. as plain text. SAT file structure isn’t complicated, and the file may be viewed using any standard text editor. A binary version of SAT format, called SAB, also exists.
The following list contains programs grouped by 7 operating systems that support SAT files. Files with SAT suffix can be copied to any mobile device or system platform, but it may not be possible to open them properly on target system.
Being unable to open files with SAT extension can be have various origins. Fortunately, most common problems with SAT files can be solved without in-depth IT knowledge, and most importantly, in a matter of minutes. We have prepared a listing of which will help you resolve your problems with SAT files.
Problems with opening and working with SAT files are most probably having to do with no proper software compatible with SAT files being present on your machine. This one is an easy one. Select 3D ACIS Modeler or one of the recommended programs (for example, AutoCAD, TurboCAD, Fusion 360) and download it from appropriate source and install on your system. The full list of programs grouped by operating systems can be found above. The safest method of downloading 3D ACIS Modeler installed is by going to developer’s website () and downloading the software using provided links.
If you already have 3D ACIS Modeler installed on your systems and SAT files are still not opened properly, check if you have the latest version of the software. Sometimes software developers introduce new formats in place of that already supports along with newer versions of their applications. The reason that 3D ACIS Modeler cannot handle files with SAT may be that the software is outdated. All of the file formats that were handled just fine by the previous versions of given program should be also possible to open using 3D ACIS Modeler.
If the issue has not been solved in the previous step, you should associate SAT files with latest version of 3D ACIS Modeler you have installed on your device. The next step should pose no problems. The procedure is straightforward and largely system-independent
Selecting the first-choice application in Windows
Selecting the first-choice application in Mac OS
If you followed the instructions form the previous steps yet the issue is still not solved, you should verify the SAT file in question. It is probable that the file is corrupted and thus cannot be accessed.
If the SAT is indeed infected, it is possible that the malware is blocking it from opening. It is advised to scan the system for viruses and malware as soon as possible or use an online antivirus scanner. If the scanner detected that the SAT file is unsafe, proceed as instructed by the antivirus program to neutralize the threat.
If the SAT file was sent to you by someone else, ask this person to resend the file to you. During the copy process of the file errors may occurred rendering the file incomplete or corrupted. This could be the source of encountered problems with the file. When downloading the file with SAT extension from the internet an error may occurred resulting in incomplete file. Try downloading the file again.
Some files require elevated access rights to open them. Log out of your current account and log in to an account with sufficient access privileges. Then open the ACIS SAT 3D Model Format file.
If the systems has insufficient resources to open SAT files, try closing all currently running applications and try again.
Up-to-date system and drivers not only makes your computer more secure, but also may solve problems with ACIS SAT 3D Model Format file. It may be the case that the SAT files work properly with updated software that addresses some system bugs.
