What is the PTMD file format?
A .ptmd file is a Polytoria Model. Polytoria is an online, block-based sandbox where players build and share their own 3D games, and this file stores a single reusable model made inside Polytoria Creator, the platform's building tool.
Inside a .ptmd file is an object hierarchy: a group of parts and sub-objects, each with its position, rotation, size, color and other engine properties. When you import the file, Polytoria Creator rebuilds that structure and treats the whole thing as one unit you can drop into a scene. This is different from a .poly file, which stores an entire place or level rather than a single model.
Many .ptmd files come from the Roblox-to-Polytoria (RTP) plugin. Exporting a Roblox model with RTP produces a Lua file that you rename to .ptmd before importing it. The converter skips some Roblox object types, including MeshParts, Unions, SpecialMeshes and VehicleSeats.
Security & safety
RISK: MEDIUMA .ptmd is a model definition rather than a standalone program, but Polytoria models can embed scripts, and files sourced from the Roblox-to-Polytoria workflow are plain Lua that was renamed. Because the format can carry scripted behavior, only import .ptmd files from creators you trust and review any attached scripts before running the model in your game.

Technical details
deep spec| Encoding | Text (plain-text model definition; the RTP conversion workflow produces a Lua source file that is renamed to .ptmd) |
| Container | Single self-contained model file holding an object tree |
| Compression | None documented |
| Typical size | A few KB to a few MB depending on part count |
| Structure | Describes a model as a hierarchy of objects (parts and groups) with their positions, rotations, sizes, colors and other engine properties, so Polytoria Creator can rebuild the model and drop it into a scene as one unit. |
| Integrity | None documented |
| Platforms | Windows, macOS, Web |
| Notes | PTMD is platform-specific to Polytoria. It is distinct from a .poly place file, which stores an entire level; a .ptmd holds a single reusable model. In the Roblox-to-Polytoria (RTP) pipeline, exporting a Roblox model yields a .lua file that must be renamed to .ptmd before Polytoria Creator will recognize it for import. |
