What is the PKT file format?
.pkt is a file format associated with the Packet Tracer software tool. PKT files store network test configuration parameters - specifically, a serialized simulation model that includes device lists (routers, switches, PCs), interface settings, IOS-style configurations, cabling, and the logical and physical workspace layout. Data in .pkt files is used for simulating and monitoring network traffic. Packet Tracer can be used to create virtual networks for testing purposes.
Packet Tracer is a software program developed by Cisco, a US-based network technology company, through its Cisco Networking Academy program. Packet Tracer is used for training network engineers and other networking-related educational purposes. Packet Tracer is also used for testing experimental network configurations.
.pkt files use a proprietary binary format - internally a zlib-compressed and XOR-obfuscated container. The format is version-stamped to the Packet Tracer release that created it; newer files often cannot be opened in older versions of the application. Cisco Packet Tracer runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and is available free of charge through the Cisco Networking Academy portal.
A closely related format is .pka - the Packet Tracer Activity file - which uses the same engine but adds graded instructions and scoring for educational assignments.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWA .pkt is an inert simulation data file - it contains no executable code and runs only inside Packet Tracer's sandboxed simulator, so it cannot infect a system the way a program can. The realistic cautions are: download Packet Tracer ONLY from the official Cisco netacad site (cracked/'free full version' copies from third-party sites and torrents are a known malware vector), and be aware that a .pkt saved in a newer Packet Tracer may not open in an older one. The files themselves are safe to share among students.

in a nutshell- TeX packed bitmap font (PK/.pk) - Legacy TeX/Metafont bitmap fonts use the .pk extension (occasionally written .pkt) - the obsolete, incorrect label in this database, unrelated to networking.
- Tibia / game packet capture - Some games and packet-capture tools have used .pkt for recorded network packets; niche and unrelated to Packet Tracer.
