What is PAGES file?

Files with the PAGES extension are files created in the Apple Pages text editor, used for creating and editing text documents. Apple Pages is a component of the Apple iWork suite. Analogically to its equivalent in Windows system (Microsoft Word), document files may contain a range of additional elements, besides plain text, such as diagrams, charts, images or tables.

A PAGE file is stored as a ZIP package, containing specific data in separate, compressed files. PAGES files can be also browsed through on computers running on Windows.

How to open a PAGES file in Windows?

Note – if a given file was secured with a password, operations described below will not be possible to perform without previous unlocking the file with a proper password.

In order to display content of a the file, several simple actions must be performed:

• Change the extension of a given file from [file_name].pages into [file_name].zip
• In order to display content of the archive, use one of the popular unpacking programs.
• In the unpacked structure of catalogues you should be able to find, among other, Thumbnail.jpg files (preview of the main page of a document), and Preview.pdf (whole document in PDF format).

Alternatively, you can use a functionality of the Google Drive – upload a document file and display its content within the Google Documents service.

How to open file with PAGES extension?

There can be multiple causes why you have problems with opening PAGES files on given system. Fortunately, most common problems with PAGES files can be solved without in-depth IT knowledge, and most importantly, in a matter of minutes. The following is a list of guidelines that will help you identify and solve file-related problems.

Step 1. Install Google Drive viewer software

The main and most frequent cause precluding users form opening PAGES files is that no program that can handle PAGES files is installed on user’s system. This one is an easy one. Select Google Drive viewer or one of the recommended programs (for example, Apple Pages, iWork, iWork Pages) and download it from appropriate source and install on your system. Step 2. Verify the you have the latest version of Google Drive viewer

Step 3. Set the default application to open PAGES files to Google Drive viewer

If the systems has insufficient resources to open PAGES files, try closing all currently running applications and try again.
