What is the LL file format?
.ll is a proprietary binary report preview file generated by the List & Label reporting component, developed by combit GmbH (Germany). List & Label is a developer SDK used to embed reporting and print functionality into business applications - end users typically encounter .ll files inside line-of-business software built with this library, rather than by using List & Label directly.
An .ll file is created when a developer or end user triggers a print preview inside a List & Label-enabled application. The file contains a fully pre-rendered, paginated version of the report - including layout, data bindings, fonts, and graphics - stored in a proprietary binary container. It is not intended as a final-output format; PDF is the preferred archive or distribution format.
The free List & Label Viewer (available from the combit developer community) can open .ll preview files without access to the source application or the SDK. Because the binary format is tied to the major version of the List & Label library, files generated with significantly older versions may not open correctly in a much newer viewer.
As of List & Label 31 (2024/2025), the SDK runs on .NET 10 and supports web and cloud deployment in addition to traditional Windows desktop environments.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWA .ll preview file is a rendered report snapshot and contains no executable code. Safe to open in the List & Label Viewer. The main risk is data privacy - .ll files may contain sensitive business data (invoices, customer lists) as they are generated from live databases.
