What is the GRF file format?
A .grf file most commonly refers to a graph data file created by DPlot, a scientific graphing application developed by HydeSoft Computing for Windows. DPlot saves the complete graph workspace to a .grf file - including axis configuration, plot type, visual settings, and the embedded numeric data series - so the chart can be reopened and modified later.
DPlot supports chart types from simple 1D bar plots to 3D surface maps, and file sizes reflect this range: a basic line chart may be only a few kilobytes, while a complex three-dimensional dataset can reach several hundred kilobytes.
The .grf extension is shared by several unrelated applications. Golden Software Grapher used .grf for legacy graph template files; its current format is .gpj. The discontinued Micrografx Graph Plus drawing tool also saved files with this extension. In addition, some online games - most notably Ragnarok Online - use .grf as a packed game resource archive, a completely different binary container.
When working with .grf files, identifying the source application is essential: a DPlot file cannot be opened by Grapher (or vice versa) because the formats share only an extension, not a structure. DPlot Viewer, a free companion to DPlot, can open .grf files without a full DPlot license.
