FLG File

Files with the extension .FLG are utilized by IsoPuzzle along with an ISO image of a damaged or incomplete media for data recovery purposes. The file contains information on sectors that have not been damaged. These are known as flags, hence the file's name - Flag File. IsoPuzzle software is not being currently developed, with its last version released in 2008.

Usage of .FLG Files for Data Reconstruction

IsoPuzzle software attempts to read the specified optical media, such as a CD or DVD, that cannot be read by standard programs. This usually occurs when the media is:

• scratched,
• improperly recorded,
• damaged in some other way.

With each attempt to read the media, elements of the list of good, undamaged data sectors are recorded in the .FLG file. Simultaneously, that sector is saved in the corresponding ISO image. Based on them, it is possible to reconstruct the recovered data as a new disc image.

Using the .FLG File for Data Import

Thanks to the .FLG file, it is possible to attempt further data recovery from the selected disc on another computer. It involves copying only the .FLG file, without the corresponding created ISO image. The resulting IMP import file can then be combined with the previously created incomplete ISO image. When making such attempts, the software also allows enforcing a specific disc size recorded in the .FLG file, if the size reported by another drive is different.
