Why convert GLB to FBX?
FBX is the standard interchange format for Maya, 3ds Max and game-engine pipelines such as Unreal Engine. Many studios require .fbx over .glb because it carries meshes, UVs, bones and keyframe animation in a single file that most DCC tools open without extra plugins. See the .FBX format page for background on the format's history and structure.
How to convert GLB to FBX
Blender - import GLB, export FBX FREE
Open your .glb via File > Import > glTF 2.0, then use File > Export > FBX; Blender is fully free and open-source and handles meshes, rigs and keyframe animation.
Command line - Blender headless CLI
Automate the conversion with a Python script using blender --background --python export_fbx.py.
Decompress Draco GLBs first - glTF-Transform CLI
If your .glb uses Draco compression, run gltf-transform decompress input.glb output.glb before importing into Blender or the converter above.
