TEF File

TEF (TablEdit Tablature) is a fie that contains tablatures. This file format is associated with TablEdit software program, but other similar tools also support it. TEF file store information similar to sheet music but for specific instrument. TEF file are typically small and can be easily downloaded or shared with other users.

Using tablatures

Tablatures (tabs for short) are popular notation for stringed instruments (mainly guitars). Services offering sheet music for guitar typically offer it in tab notation. In order to play music in this notation user must be able to read it. This fingering-based notation is easier to read then sheet music and should be learned first. Many beginners make the mistake of trying to play the instrument from tabs before learning the basics of their instrument of choice.
