What is the GEPRINT file format?
.GEPRINT is a saved print or map-layout settings file created by Google Earth Pro. When a user configures the map print dialog in Google Earth Pro - setting the page size, orientation, title, legend, scale bar, and view parameters - the application can save those settings to a .geprint file for reuse in future sessions.
The file is proprietary to the Google Earth Pro desktop client and is not a portable map document. It stores layout metadata (page setup, labels, north arrow, scale) that Google Earth Pro applies when printing or saving a high-resolution image of the current view. The actual geographic content - place marks, overlays, and map imagery - is not stored in a .geprint file; it resides in KML or KMZ files, or is streamed live from Google's servers.
.geprint files are only meaningful inside the Google Earth Pro application that created them. They cannot be opened by any other mapping tool, and the layout settings are tied to the client version that wrote the file.
Google Earth Pro runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It has been available as a free download since January 2015 (previously a paid product). To share a place or map view with others, export as .kml or .kmz rather than a .geprint file - only the KML/KMZ files carry the actual geographic data.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWA .geprint is a tiny Google Earth Pro settings file with no executable content; it is safe. The only caution is sourcing Google Earth Pro from Google's official site rather than third-party 'viewer' download portals. If you were expecting a map, ask the sender for a KML/KMZ export or a PDF/image instead - a .geprint alone won't show the map outside Google Earth Pro.
