What is the EPP file format?
An .epp file is an EditPad Pro project file - an XML document that records the state of an editing session in EditPad Pro, the Windows text editor published by Just Great Software Co. Ltd. The format has been present since approximately EditPad Pro 4.x and continues through the current 8.x release.
An .epp file contains no actual document text. Instead it stores references - absolute or relative file paths - to each file open in the project, organized into named groups that mirror EditPad Pro's tab groups. For every referenced file the project saves per-file metadata: cursor and scroll position, code-fold state, the detected or manually assigned character encoding (UTF-8, Windows-1252, etc.), line-ending style, and the active syntax coloring scheme. Project-level settings such as search paths, function list configuration, and the spell-check language are stored as well.
When EditPad Pro opens an .epp file it re-opens all referenced documents and restores their previous state. If a referenced file has been moved, renamed, or deleted, EditPad Pro reports it as missing - the project file itself is unaffected. Deleting an .epp file is safe: only the saved session state is lost, not the documents.
Because .epp is standard XML beginning with <?xml, any text editor or XML viewer can inspect its contents, though only EditPad Pro and EditPad Lite (the free edition) interpret it as a project.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWEPP is a plain XML text file containing file paths and editor settings. It does not contain executable code. However, file paths inside may reveal directory structures, which could be a minor privacy concern when sharing project files. Cannot cause harm by opening in EditPad Pro.
