What is the CVF file format?
A .cvf file is a CPU-Z Validation File generated by CPUID's CPU-Z hardware information utility. It encapsulates a serialized snapshot of system hardware data - CPU model, stepping, clock speed, cache sizes, supported instruction sets, motherboard chipset, BIOS version, RAM SPD timings and frequency, and optionally GPU information - packaged for submission to the CPU-Z Validator website at valid.x86.fr.
To generate a .cvf file, press F7 inside CPU-Z; the resulting file is then uploaded to valid.x86.fr, which verifies the hardware data and issues a permanent public validation page. The file is likely encrypted or obfuscated to prevent tampering - altering the hardware results before submission would defeat the purpose of community validation. .cvf files expire approximately 7 days after generation and have no use outside the validator upload workflow.
For a persistent local hardware record, CPU-Z's File menu offers plain-text (.txt) and HTML (.html) export options, which produce human-readable reports without the expiry constraint. The .cvf format is Windows-only, as CPU-Z does not generate validation files on its Android or other ports.
