What is the CCP file format?
.ccp files are copy-profile configuration files used by CloneCD, a disc-copying application originally developed by Elaborate Bytes of Switzerland in 1999. Each profile stores read and write parameters tailored to a specific type of optical disc, enabling consistent settings without manual reconfiguration for each job.
The file is plain text in INI style. It opens with the [CloneCD OptionsFile] section header, which identifies the file type, followed by named sections such as [DisableAutoInsertNotification] and [SectorTimings]. Each section contains key=value pairs governing error retry counts, Amplified Weak Sectors (AWS) handling, sub-channel data reading mode, and read speed. A version line - for example Version=1 - appears inside the file. Bundled profiles typically cover disc types including Game CD, Protected PC, and Audio CD.
CloneCD passed through several owners: Elaborate Bytes sold it to SlySoft (Antigua) in 2003 - a jurisdiction chosen partly to sidestep European copyright enforcement - then SlySoft was succeeded by RedFox (Belize/Latvia) in 2016. As of 2024, CloneCD is no longer sold or actively updated and is effectively abandonware; RedFox's current active product is AnyDVD HD. .ccp profiles are closely associated with the .ccd image format and its companion .img and .sub files.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWPlain-text settings file; contains no executable code. No known malware uses .ccp extension. Historically CloneCD itself was legal-gray-area software for DRM circumvention, but the profile file itself is harmless.
