Why convert OBJ to PNG?
OBJ is a plain-text 3D geometry format and PNG is a 2D raster image; there is no direct container conversion between them. Rendering an .obj to .png is the standard way to create product previews, thumbnails, or portfolio images from a model without sharing the full .obj file.
How to convert OBJ to PNG
Blender OPEN-SOURCE
Import the .obj via File > Import > Wavefront (.obj), position the camera, then render with Render > Render Image and save the result as .png.
3ds Max (3D Studio Max) APP
Import the .obj, configure lighting and camera, render the scene, and save the output as .png.
3D Coat APP
Open the .obj in 3D Coat and use its render or export function to save the current view as a .png image.

About these formats

Open .PNG details →Quality & what to watch
- The PNG contains no 3D data - you cannot recover the original geometry from it, and the conversion is one-way.
- The
.mtlmaterial file and any texture images must be in the same folder as the.objbefore importing; without them the model will appear grey and untextured. - Output quality depends on lighting, camera angle, and render settings in the chosen application.
