What is the JSF file format?
.jsf files are associated with Adobe Fireworks, a program for editing both bitmap and vector graphics, originally developed by Macromedia and later acquired by Adobe. A .jsf file is a script batch file that contains code to execute a sequence of program commands. Commands are written in JavaScript and interact with the Fireworks scripting object model - lines typically reference fw. API calls, for example to resize a selected shape, export documents, or batch-process multiple files.
Because .jsf scripts are plain-text files with no fixed binary signature, any text editor can open and modify them. Fireworks loads command scripts from two directories on Windows:
C:\Program Files\Adobe Fireworks\Configuration\CommandsC:\Program Files\Adobe Fireworks\Configuration\Command Panels
In May 2013 Adobe cancelled further development of Fireworks, with Creative Suite 6 being the final release. The application was briefly offered through Creative Cloud but has since been removed from the subscription service entirely; users must rely on a standalone CS6 installation. Comparable scripting in Adobe Animate uses the .jsfl format instead.
Security & safety
RISK: LOWA .jsf is plain-text JavaScript scoped to the Fireworks application - it isn't a web/system script and can't run outside Fireworks, so reading one in a text editor is safe. As with any script, glance through an unfamiliar .jsf before running it in Fireworks to see what it does. The bigger practical 'risk' is wasted effort and dodgy downloads: because Fireworks is discontinued, searches for a '.jsf opener' can lead to 'universal viewer' PUP/adware - there's no special viewer; it's just JavaScript text.
