What is StuffIt?
StuffIt is an archive compression and decompression application originally created by Aladdin Systems and later owned by Smith Micro Software. It introduced the SIT archive format that was the dominant compression standard on classic Mac OS for distributing and compressing files. Modern versions support common formats such as ZIP and 7z in addition to the native SIT format.
