Why convert EASM to STEP?
An EASM (eDrawings Assembly) is a downstream publication snapshot - a 3D equivalent of a PDF - that stores tessellated visual mesh for display, not the boundary-representation solids that .step (ISO 10303, a neutral text-based CAD exchange format introduced 1994) requires. Running an EASM through any converter produces either a failure or a broken STEP shell with no usable geometry.
How to convert EASM to STEP
SolidWorks APP
Ask the sender to open the original .sldasm in SolidWorks and export via File > Save As > STEP (.step/.stp); most engineers can provide this in seconds, and STEP is the standard neutral format for cross-CAD interoperability.

About these formats
An EASM file is an eDrawings Assembly - a lightweight, shareable snapshot of a multi-part 3D CAD assembly published from SolidWorks (Dassault Systemes). It is a viewing and review format,…

- An EASM normally contains only a tessellated mesh for rendering - no features, no parametric history, no boundary-representation solids - so there is nothing for a STEP converter to extract.
- In rare cases the publisher explicitly enabled precise-geometry export; open the .easm in eDrawings Viewer and check File > Save As for any export options before concluding the geometry was not embedded.
- Sites that advertise EASM-to-STEP conversion typically fail silently, return a corrupt or empty file, or use the upload as a data-collection mechanism.
