Why convert EASM to DWG?

An EASM (eDrawings Assembly) is a compressed proprietary viewing container published from SolidWorks, holding a tessellated mesh model and saved views for review purposes, introduced in 2000. DWG (AutoCAD Drawing Database) stores 2D linework, dimensions, annotations, and precise CAD geometry, introduced with AutoCAD in 1982. The EASM contains none of the data required to produce a DWG.

How to convert EASM to DWG

Open the original SolidWorks assembly (.sldasm) in SolidWorks and export a 2D drawing sheet as .dwg; the .easm publication alone cannot generate this output.

  • EASM is a downstream publication comparable to a 3D PDF - there is no path back from it to editable CAD geometry.
  • If the publisher enabled precise geometry, eDrawings Viewer supports measurement tools; if those tools are greyed out, the file contains visual-only data with no dimensions stored.
