Why convert EASM to SLDASM?
An EASM (eDrawings Assembly, introduced 2000 by SolidWorks Corporation) is produced by publishing a SolidWorks assembly in a one-way process - similar to saving a PDF from a Word document. The parametric history, mate constraints, features, and editability remain in the source .sldasm; only a compressed visual mesh and component tree are written into the EASM. No software, including SolidWorks itself, can reconstruct parametric history from a finished eDrawings publication.
How to convert EASM to SLDASM
SolidWorks APP
Ask the original author to share the .sldasm source file, or request that they export a STEP (.step/.stp) from SolidWorks - STEP carries solid geometry importable into SolidWorks and most other CAD tools without requiring the native file.

About these formats
An EASM file is an eDrawings Assembly - a lightweight, shareable snapshot of a multi-part 3D CAD assembly published from SolidWorks (Dassault Systemes). It is a viewing and review format,…
Open .EASM details →A SLDASM file is a 3D assembly created in SOLIDWORKS - it links multiple part files (.sldprt) together with mates that define how the components fit. To view it without SOLIDWORKS, use the…

- EASM stores tessellated mesh geometry for display rendering, not parametric B-rep solids - the data needed for an editable SLDASM simply is not present in the file.
- Even if the publisher enabled precise-geometry export in eDrawings, parametric feature history and mate constraints are not recoverable from a published file.
- For viewing and measuring the assembly without the source file, the free eDrawings Viewer opens EASM files on Windows and macOS.
