What is Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer?

Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer is a free standalone application from Microsoft that allows users to open and view PowerPoint presentations without having Microsoft Office installed. It supports Open XML formats such as .pptx and .pptm as well as older binary formats, but does not allow editing. Microsoft discontinued the viewer in 2018, directing users to PowerPoint Online instead.
