Why convert JT to STL?
JT is an engineering visualization format common in automotive and aerospace supply chains, and slicers and 3D printers do not read it. .stl is the standard triangle-mesh format accepted by virtually every slicer and print service, so converting JT to STL is the normal first step when printing a part received as a JT file.
How to convert JT to STL
CAD Assistant FREE
Open the .jt file in CAD Assistant; go to File > Save As and choose STL. Select Binary STL for smaller file size.
FreeCAD OPEN-SOURCE
File > Import the .jt; select the part in the model tree, then File > Export > STL Mesh. Adjust mesh deviation in the export dialog for finer output.
Siemens NX APP
File > Open the JT in NX; go to File > Export > STL. This is the highest-fidelity path for JT files that contain B-rep geometry.

About these formats
A JT (Jupiter Tessellation) file is a compact 3D CAD model used in automotive and aerospace engineering to share and review designs without heavy native CAD software. The free way to open…
Open .JT details →An STL file is a 3D model that describes a shape as a mesh of triangles. To view it, use Microsoft 3D Viewer (Windows) or Quick Look (macOS). To 3D-print it, open it in a slicer like…
Open .STL details →Quality & what to watch
- JT already holds triangle mesh data; STL output quality is determined when the JT is created, not during conversion.
- If the JT was exported with coarse tessellation, the STL will reflect that - request a finer JT or ask for STEP format if mesh quality is critical.
- Choose Binary STL for smaller file sizes; use ASCII STL only if your downstream tool explicitly requires it.

Can I print an STL exported from JT directly?
.stl in your slicer and it loads without issues.
