Why convert IDML to HTML?
IDML is a ZIP package of XML files describing an InDesign layout, introduced in InDesign CS4 in 2008. HTML is a flow-based web format. The typical conversion is for repurposing print or digital publishing content for the web, or for publishing pipelines where the same InDesign content goes to both print (via PDF) and the browser.

- IDML layout data - frame positions, columns, master pages - does not translate to HTML; InDesign linearizes the content into a single flow, so multi-column layouts and overlapping frames will look different.
- Export order follows InDesign's Articles panel (Window > Articles); set article order before exporting or the output sequence may not match the intended reading order.
- Linked images must be present when you open the
.idml- missing images result in placeholder boxes in the HTML export.
