How to convert TEX to HTML
- Add your .TEX file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .HTML in a few seconds.
- Download your new .HTML file.
What to expect
- Math equations require explicit flags - pass
--mathjaxor--mathmlto Pandoc, otherwise equations remain as raw LaTeX source in the HTML output. - Custom macros and non-standard packages may not translate; make4ht and LaTeXML handle more of the standard LaTeX macro set than Pandoc because they run a full TeX compile.
- Figures are exported as separate PNG image files that must be kept alongside the
.htmlfile for images to display correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Will the HTML look like the original PDF?
The text and structure (sections, lists, tables) will be correct, but the visual layout will differ - LaTeX's typographic precision for spacing, page breaks, and column widths does not map to HTML and CSS.
My .tex uses a custom journal class - will that convert?
Standard content (text, sections, equations, figures) comes through; class-specific macros for two-column layout, running headers, or custom fonts often do not and may need manual cleanup. Use LaTeXML or make4ht for the best results.
Can I convert a multi-file LaTeX project?
Yes - place all files referenced with
\input or \include in the same directory. Pandoc requires them to be manually present; make4ht handles them more naturally through a full LaTeX compile. What about bibliography citations?
With Pandoc, pass
--bibliography your.bib to include formatted references; with make4ht or LaTeXML, run BibTeX or Biber first so the .bbl file is ready before converting.
