KWZ ファイル形式とは？

.kwz ファイルは、Flipnote Studio 3D で作成されたパラパラ漫画スタイルのアニメーション「うごメモ」を保持します。任天堂は2013年7月24日に日本で、その後北米と欧州で Nintendo 3DS 向けにこのアプリをリリースしました。各ファイルには一連の手描きフレームが保存されており、各フレームには固定されたカラーパレットから選ばれた3つの描画レイヤーがあります。3DS の画面は立体視に対応しているため、各レイヤーには深度値も保持されており、アニメーションを3Dで再生することができます。音声は、カスタム ADPCM オーディオコーデックの最大4トラックとして含まれています。

内部的には、.kwz はタグ付けされたセクションの連続です。ヘッダー、80x64のサムネイル、圧縮されたフレーム画像、フレームごとのメタデータテーブル、そしてオーディオで構成されています。最後の256バイトはファイル全体に対する RSA-2048 署名であり、本体が「うごメモ」を読み込む前にこれをチェックします。名前の由来は、カエルを意味する古語の «かわず（kawazu）» からきています。この形式は、DSi 時代の .ppm 形式の後継です。

A .kwz is a passive animation data file with no scripting or executable code, so opening one cannot run a program. Every genuine flipnote is RSA-signed, and an unmodified 3DS rejects files that fail the signature check. The main caveat is that files from unofficial sources may not validate on real hardware, but they pose no security risk to a computer.
