What is Pyrex?
Pyrex is a programming language developed by Greg Ewing that extends Python syntax with optional static type declarations, enabling Python-like code to be compiled into C extension modules for CPython. It was the direct predecessor to Cython and is primarily used for writing performance-sensitive Python extensions and wrapping C libraries.
