Parchive (PAR) is an error-correction file format and utility that uses Reed-Solomon coding to create recovery data for file sets, allowing reconstruction of missing or corrupted files. It is commonly distributed alongside binary Usenet posts to guard against incomplete downloads. PAR2 is the most widely deployed version, offering improved efficiency and flexibility over the original PAR format.
