What is Cygwin?
Cygwin is a compatibility layer for Windows that provides a Unix-like environment through a collection of GNU and open-source tools compiled for Windows. It includes a POSIX-compatible API enabling Linux/Unix applications to be compiled and run on Windows without modification. It is maintained by Red Hat, Inc.
