What is Asterisk?
Asterisk is an open-source communications framework developed by Digium, Inc. (now part of Sangoma Technologies) that implements PBX functionality and supports VoIP protocols including SIP, IAX2, and H.323. Organizations use it to build custom telephony systems, IVR applications, and VoIP gateways on Linux servers.
