Why convert VSD to PDF?
Most recipients do not have Microsoft Visio installed, leaving them unable to open a raw VSD file. A .pdf retains the full visual layout of the diagram and works in any viewer on any platform. For long-term archiving, PDF is also a more future-safe format than the proprietary binary VSD.

- LibreOffice's libvisio library renders most VSD diagrams well, but complex stencils or custom fonts may not appear identical to the Visio original.
- Multi-page VSD files export all drawing pages as separate PDF pages by default in both tools.
- VSD is the legacy binary Visio format (Visio 2010 and earlier); the newer VSDX format is a separate XML-based container.
