Why convert VSD to DWG?
Architects, engineers and facilities teams work in AutoCAD and cannot use a Visio file directly. DWG is the standard exchange format for technical drawing sets, so converting a floor plan, site layout or schematic from VSD allows it to be incorporated into a CAD project as a reference underlay.
How to convert VSD to DWG
Microsoft Visio APP
Open the .vsd, go to File > Export > Export to AutoCAD, choose AutoCAD Drawing (.dwg) and select an AutoCAD version. Export one page at a time and verify the result in DWG TrueView before sending.

- The DWG export converts shapes to flat 2D lines, arcs and text; there are no CAD blocks, parametric constraints or dimension objects in the output.
- Only one page is exported per DWG file; repeat the export for each page of a multi-page VSD.
- DXF is also available from the same export menu and is sometimes more reliably read by older or non-Autodesk CAD software.
